It’s now been more than a year since the word ‘lockdown’ entered our lives – and it’s been a year none of us will ever forget.
In the home move market, it’s been a strange period. In theory, it should have been much quieter but actually, here in Cumbria, it’s remained busy – and not just driven by local people.
The biggest single trend we’ve seen is the number of people moving to Cumbria – and Carlisle in particular. As many of half of our homebuyers at any one time are now moving into Cumbria from elsewhere.
Why? Well, when we speak to the people who call us, it’s clear they’ve had a few months to think about where and how they want to live. Working from home has become something that more and more people want to do even when offices re-open, so living in the heart of a big city isn’t as important as it used to be.
It’s a mix of people too. Some are moving up here for the first time, leaving London, Manchester and other major population centres behind for the better value in our market here.
Others are moving back to Cumbria. Having moved away for work, they now find that, for at least some of the week, they can work from home – with home once again being Carlisle and Cumbria.
Who can blame them? House prices are more affordable in Cumbria and, with the Lakes, we’re on the doorstep of one of the most beautiful parts of the country.
So increasingly, we’re working with couples and families re-locating to our beautiful county. Our new relocation service doesn’t just help them find a new home – it can also put them in touch with everyone else who can help with their move. Taking the strain off and letting enjoy Cumbrian life from the start.
Location, Location, Location, they always say. Well, welcome to Cumbria one and all. You couldn’t have picked a better one!
